The Amazing Race - Family Edition
I’ve been an avid watcher of The Amazing Race since the second season. When the network started advertising the Family Edition, my first reaction was negative. After seeing all the torture the adults went through (eating gross delicacies, not to mention tortuous tasks), I thought it was terrible to expect kids to have to go through the same thing.
I voiced this opinion to Cassie (the girl I trained to take my place at work) and she gave me her perspective. Although I forget most of what she said, I remember that it was the value of teamwork and going different places that will etch into the memories of these kids. She’s right, but I still had my reservations.
I wound up missing all but the last fifteen minutes of the first show. Surprisingly, most of the families have late teen or young adult children. It broke my heart to see the Black family lose because their kids are the same ages as mine. There is one other family with young kids that is still fighting. I’m rooting for them now.

I love watching The Amazing Race too but as I live in Australia I probably won’t get to see this edition until next year.
I understand your reservations, I think I’d be the same but your workmate is right…this is a wonderful opportunity that they will never forget.

Right now, they’re racing on the East Coast. I heard somewhere that they weren’t going abroad like the other groups, which is a shame for the little kids. But I can understand the safety issue.
