Smacking Myself Upside the Head
I decided to spend today typing in Chapter 10 of Prosperity. My goal was to find out how many words I’d written and to continue on with Chapter 11. Well, towards the middle of the second scene I realized that I’d screwed up.
Amanda and Travis return home from their errand to find his house burned to the ground. I’d done nothing to describe the condition of his house, and her initial reaction was to focus on getting the mattress into her new house. As I began typing this into the computer, I realized that her reaction was wrong.
Her important papers and special photo albums had been inside that house. Wouldn’t she care more about that and how Travis is doing? Duh!
This also means that I’ll be scrapping Chapter 11 because I have them standing inside his bedroom, which is no longer there. Shit, I hate it when this happens.
This isn’t the first time this has happened to me, so I’ll get over it. At the moment, the typed wordcount for this chapter is 3,700 words. I’ll take the original subscenes and stick them into Chapter 11.
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Think of it as a positive Deborah, imagine if you’d missed it and didn’t realise until it was too late. I’m always really pleased (though initially irritated) when I find errors, for me, it means i’m getting better at this game. keep up the good work.

Thanks, Lee.
Yes, I’m glad I caught the error early. If I had typed it from the beginning, I wouldn’t have unless I’d gone back to reread what I’d written.
The longhand method is working out great for me. What you were seeing on Sunday was my initial irritation, lol.
Hope your final editing is going well!
