How to Upgrade to WordPress 2.01
After wading through the sea of “Help Me!” threads at the WordPress Support site, I found two sets of instructions on how to upgrade to 2.01. They were a bit different from each other, so I will combine them, adding my own tips.
1. Back up your blog
2. Deactivate all of your plugins, and set your theme to the default.
3. Delete all of your current WordPress files except the config.php and the wp-content folder.
4. Upload the new files
5. Run wp-admin/upgrade.php
6. Activate your theme and see if it works.
7. Activate each of your plug-ins, one at a time. Test each to see if they work or break your blog.
Good luck!

See, Deborah, you’re already functioning as a skills center, as suggested by John!

I have to wait for fantasico to be updated. I can:t get it to work no matter what I try. I’m happy with 1.5 for now but I am eager for 2.0.1.

I saw a lot of frustrated people on the WP support forum on Thursday night. Errors in the functions.php file were the top complaints. Is that what’s happening to you?

I just did my upgrades for 2.0.5 this weekend. I’m actually a bit more confident in my upgrading. I simply upload and overlay all my files and run the upgrade script each time a new version comes out. I’ve yet to have a problem doing this (though I was more careful with my upgrade to 2.0 because a couple of the plugins didn’t work; there I followed the direction on wordpress.org to the letter because I anticipated these issues).

Same here, Jim. Just to be on the safe side, I always back up in case I make a mistake somewhere or a plugin decides to go bonkers on me.
