The owner of the ports was P&O, an old British company that actually developed most of the world's big ports back in the days of the British Empire. Americans felt comfortable with this ownership. Then the current useless Government we've got in Britain decided to allow the sale to a Dubai company. If the American Government were to block it, they would probably have to buy the ports themselves. P&O is the last maritime element left from when Britannia ruled the waves -- Cunard has been sold to the Danes -- so a lot of us are not happy about this crass move either. Given that some of the 911 terrorists hailed from the UE (none from Iraq, I might add), the reaction of most Americans isn't too surprising Could Bushco get further out of touch?
