If we go back in time to visit ourselves, which we don't remember happening, then an alternate reality is created where the 'self' that we visited continues on through life remembering the visit from his/her future self. But we still don't remember it, because our time travel has created another reality. This is why I don't believe we'll ever see evidence of time travel in our own reality, as any change to historical events will only create a different reality where that change is part of the timeline. If it were possible, I'd go back and kick my ass--several times. But if I did that, the future is changed and then I probably wouldn't want to go back, so I would never have gone back...etc. I have heard about an alternate reality being a ghost vision and I think this is what she was talking about.
