Browsers
I need to rant for a minute. I’ve spent the last couple of hours tweaking the new theme for WBA so the Almighty Internet Exploder will be happy with it. The only thing I needed to do was change the font and the font size in the sidebar and the posts.
I’ll spare you the details except to say that it went from bad to worse. Now, I’m looking at WBA on my Mac’s version of IE. The graphic of my original theme is not displaying in the header. It did when I first modified it a couple of months ago. Now, it’s not and I have to figure out why.
God, I hate these stupid browsers!
Update: It seems that Internet Explorer Mac doesn’t like any of my blogs. They’re all screwed up. I couldn’t tell you what’s wrong. However, I was able to get them working on the PC. The link headers are too big on the WBA site, and I haven’t yet figured out how to fix that. I’m going to leave things alone for a few days so I can gain a fresher perspective.

Tossing my two cents in… I have the same problem with IE for Mac poorly rendering my personal and work sites. Then I remembered that IE hasn’t been updated by Microsoft in years and is considered by the majority in the Mac world to be a dead browser so I was frustrating myself over little things for nothing. Now, some students where I work use IE out of habit, but I’m uninstalling it over the summer to get them using Safari or Firefox.

Speaking as a person that knows a lot of MAC users, most of them don’t even bother with IE for MAC. We either use Safari or even better, Firefox.

Mariann: I considered IE to be a dead browser, too, until I learned how many people are still using it in the PC world. Safari and Firefox definitely reign with us Mac addicts.
Fred: I haven’t bothered with IE since I installed Netscape 10 years ago. Now, I strictly use Firefox.

The trouble with Firefox for the Mac is that you can’t get it if you have System 9, only if you have System 10. The computer I have is really a little old for System 10 so… I’ve been kind of stuck. iCab is good and will visit sites that rebuff my ancient Mac IE browser (toads), but it has been having problems with JavaScript and keeps freezing, so I end up using IE again.
Having said that, I’ve been lucky enough to obtain a second hand Mac G4 and will be upgrading everything in a few days - I will be able to see everybody’s blogs in glorious technicolour. I can’t wait :-).
Best of luck in your endeavours.

Hi, Diddums,
All this new technology is forcing us to upgrade whether we want to or not. I’m glad you were able to get a G4. I’ve had mine since 2001 and have never had any problems. You won’t miss System 9 once you’ve used System 10.
Thanks for you encouragement. I hope to see you around here again.

Hey Deb-
Browsers drive me batty as well.
I used to have more problems with Blogger than I do at Wordpress. Can’t comment on the MAC but I will say that as far as browsers go, I no longer use IE to view the web. Just my personal preference, I guess.
Take a breather and stop pulling that hair out.
The nasty HTML monster will still be there when you get back.

Thanks, Michael.
I started off using IE when I first started surfing and Blogger when I first started blogging. I’ve chucked both long ago because they gave me nothing but problems.
I gave myself strict orders not to worry about the HTML monster today. My word processor is open, and I’m going to attempt to crank out a few paragraphs before Stephen King’s new show comes on.
