WordPress 2 Book Released
I ordered this book in mid-May and just now received it. If you are new to WordPress or are thinking about migrating from Blogger to WordPress, get this book. It will help you learn the basics, from how to set up and customize your site to adding podcasts and webcams to your blog.

As an intermediate user, I have learned WordPress via trial and error and many hours trying to decipher their monstrous Codex. I liked how the authors explained The Loop and the file components of the Kubrick theme in layman’s terms.
The only thing it doesn’t teach you is how to build themes from scratch, which is what I was hoping to learn. Thankfully, there is a new book due out in October called Pro WordPress Development, which I’m hoping will be as good and user-friendly as this book.

Heh, I’ll probably never buy such a book. I’m a software geek, anyway, so I have a quick learning curve where it comes to this sort of thing. And WordPress evolves so fast that any manual will be outdated really quickly. But if a manual is the easiest and best way to bring a user up to speed, I say more power to ya’! Then, when the next version comes out, you don’t have that much new to learn.

Regarding the short shelf life of computer manuals, you are absolutely right. I wouldn’t be surprised to see WordPress upgrading to version 2.5 by late this year or the beginning of 2007.

I use Wordpress but I let them host it instead of doing it myself. One of these days I will probably migrate to the server version. It’s good to know that you can buy a book like this. I hate to read techinical documents online.

Me, too, Fred. There’s so much information in that Codex that it’s hard to sift through. It’s nice to have a physical book that you can refer to when you need it.

Whoa! It’s all different! LOL
Wanted to let you know that that cool new show I told you about is on TONIGHT (I think I mistakenly said Thursday) on Sc Fi Channel. It’s called “Eureka”. It comes on at 8PM Central, not sure what that is in California time - LOL

Thanks, Marti.
I’ll have to check my TV Guide, but I think I’m forty-five minutes late already.
