Writer’s Blog Alliance is Temporarily Down
I woke up this morning and found a comment from Fred, alerting me that WBA no longer existed. Yesterday, I received a very angry email from a visitor, stating that he had spent 30 minutes trying to post a comment to a post and kept receiving a message that his site was invalid. Have any of you ever experienced this when trying to post a comment to that site?
At any rate, the Absolute Write nightmare flashed before my eyes. I thought he’d complained to my ISP and that they had shut WBA down without any notice to me. As it turns out, that wasn’t what happened. My domain had expired and now they have to renew and propagate it.
What a way to start the morning.
Update: It is up and running again.

Ouch! That is a crack in the jaw. I usually get an email two weeks before a domain is going to expire. I can’t say I’ve ever had a real problem with WBA, except that the Rich Visual Editor makes me want to slope off and bury my head in the sand
Maybe you’d be better off not renewing the domain?

The same thing happened to me a few months ago at Wordpress; my blog dissapeared.
I was freaked out the entire day.
Turned out they were doing system maintenence and had yet to post a disclaimer message.
Not a good way to start the day.
You would think an email would be in order from your host saying the domain was about to expire…that’s the kind of stuff that pisses me off. Hope everything else is ok. I have much catching up to do. So much for vaca… ;(

John: That Rich Text Editor is a pain. Go into your user profile and deselect it.
Michael: I plan on writing to my host and asking them to send me an email before this happens again. I’m still trying to calm down.

I wouldn’t spend more than a few minutes trying to post at any site, but hey, that’s just me…Nothing to freak out over.

Me, neither. I was surprised by his vehemence, but I worked it out with him. Situations like this make me grateful for my customer service training.
