Back to Skewl
Yesterday was the first day of school for the boys. Coming back home to an empty house was a bit of a culture shock for me. It was so quiet!
Of course this changed when I picked them up. My youngest has started off the year with a substitute because the teacher decided to quit (my husband thinks). He’s very excited about the school camping trip, which they’ve scheduled for a week in September.
I asked my oldest how school went, and he made a gagging noise. Very typical for him.
He’s not looking forward to learning Spanish (which Mom made him sign up for), and he doesn’t get to go to his favorite class (technical drawing) until next semester.
Other than a couple papers that needed signing, the teachers didn’t dish out any homework yesterday. Not to worry. They’ll make up for that today. Ugh!
And so another year begins.

It IS strange when they go back (at first LOL) Gagging sound - that’s funny! I’d say you were wise to make him take Spanish - 25 years ago I couldn’t get a job at a hospital in California (even though I was a trained x-ray technician) because I couldn’t speak Spanish.

Nowadays, it’s helpful to know Spanish and Vietnamese where I live. I’ve seen some job postings where they want you to know Mandarin.
I took two years of Spanish in high school, but never utilized it. Most of it’s gone now, I’m sure. I’ll be studying it along with him so I can regain this skill.

We still have a few years left before Jenna goes to school. Her daycare is like a school so it won’t be too much of shock for her.

My nephew goes to daycare, too. The transition from the daycare setting to the class setting isn’t much different, I don’t think.

He should seriously learn Spanish the way America is going. Maybe Chinese too.

He and I joked about learning Chinese, but that might not be a bad idea.
