Launching into 2007
The holiday crunch is finally over, and I’m oh-so-glad for that. My colleagues are, too. It’s been an unusually busy season for them and for me. My contract is scheduled to end on February 28, which I find gives me mixed emotions. Although the job can be tedious, I enjoy working with the people there. They’re a good bunch.
Fred’s post about a career change echoed what I’ve been feeling for the past decade. I hope he succeeds, and I hope he shares with us how he succeeds.
I went to work yesterday, thinking about what would happen if I didn’t get any more admin contracts. The only thing I’d miss is the steady paycheck and the human contact. Like Fred, I hate the career path that has sustained me off and on for the past twenty years. I’m inching my way towards changing that. So far, I’ve had modest success, but I feel that my progress is finally starting to move forward. So, it’s just a matter of being patient. I will get where I want to be.
As of 12/31/06, I’ve sold ten copies of the anthology. Almost half of these sales were from the UK, so I didn’t have to wonder if all of them came from my family. Speaking of which, I finally educated them about what a blog is!
I hope all of you had a wonderful New Year’s.

Well, you’ll get a sale from France in weeks to come regarding the anthology. I’ve added it to my next Amazon command, and as soon as I gather enough cash to afford myself some more books, it’ll go in.

I’m sure you will get to where you want to be. It was a tough decision to make a career change. It was easier for me to make the change since I was forced into this situation. How are things going with publishing Prosperity?

Thank you, Yzabel!
Fred: Sometimes it takes an unplanned circumstance to make us see better opportunities. Good luck! As for Prosperity, I’m currently in the editing phase. I’ve been working at it each night and now have two chapters finished. Twenty-three more to go.

Ten copies, eh, Deborah? Hmmm, that means quite a few of the contributors haven’t bought it. Maybe you should send them all a reminder.
Interestingly, no-one bought it from the WBA Store either, but then WBA seems to be dead in the water now.
Anyway, good luck with your career. In my book, an ending always signifies a new beginning.

I am glad the holidays are over as well. I’m fighting a terrible case of apathy at the moment…just frustrated about having to revise the ROP cover for the FOURTH time, the incessant driving I am forced to do right now, and lack of income or focus. I rarely question if I’m headed in the right direction, but I have found myself in that uncomfortable position recently, and it is a miserable place to be. I commend anyone who can fcous, or has the courage to strike out in a new direction.
Best wishes to you, to Fred, to John, and all of your readers.

John: Regarding the book, I don’t think they’re interested. They have the ebook, which I gave to them for free. As for my career, I’m looking forward to the new beginning.
Marti: I’ve been in your shoes many times. So, I know how you feel. Hang in there. (Big hugs)

I’m only new to admin and think it’s ok; like you said, it’s a paycheck. I enjoy the people I work with and there are some highlights and action, but I’d rather be writing. Best of luck with where you’re going to end up.
I’m interested in buying it, though I don’t have a credit card so buy all my stuff online through paypal. I do consider it a publishing credit, of sorts and wish to show it off to friends and family. They have no idea how many copies it sold
I really wish WBA wasn’t dead. I’d post if I had something to post about, but if you look at my own blog, it’s kind of dead there too, especially considering my political posts used to attract some good debates.

Ben, the people you work with make a big difference. Good luck with your job and your writing.
Thank you for telling me about your dilemma. I’ve implemented a PayPal button underneath the book cover in the sidebar. I’d love to hear what you think of the book.

Deborah-
In terms of the career, follow the heart. You know this but I figured I’d say it. The gut knows what’s best. I hope you find that ‘pot of gold’ interms of your writing. God knows, you deserve it.
I hope the anthology sells a few more copies. There’s writing in there that’s worth far more than the price asked.
Take care of you, please don’t forget that, okay?
best,
~m

I’ve been in my current job for six years this month. It’s the longest job I’ve had, although I’ve worked for…27 years (that makes me sounds so old). Admin is a good job, but like you say, the people make the difference. I’ve been lucky in that department.
John, WBA went too commercial for me. That’s why I stopped visiting the site. I don’t think the downtime helped any either.
Deborah, good luck with the anthology. I hope you get steady sales.
