WordPress 2.1 has Launched
Aaron Brazell has written a great post called 10 Things You Should Know About WordPress 2.1, which explains the bells and whistles of the latest release of WordPress. I think everyone should read this article, along with Lorelle’s Fear Not WordPress 2.1 and WordPress Plugins before they upgrade.
I’m glad to see that they’ve made improvements on the Rich Text Editor (which I’ve long since turned off since the 2.0 upgrade) and the Image Uploader. They’ve also implemented a WordPress-to-WordPress import feature that will allow you to combine two or more WP blogs. That caught my eye and made me think of my On Book Design blog, which I haven’t touched since June. I thought about importing those posts onto this blog, since I have touched on book designing when I published through Lulu.
But I’ve decided against it because users have complained about their blog rolls getting screwed up. Until I read more about that and how to fix it, I’m not going to update this blog just yet.

The blogroll problem is actually easily corrected - you just have to reassign them to their appropriate categories, but it’s something that can be done with a mass edit, so it’s not terribly painful. That was the only problem I had with the upgrade, and it was relatively painless to resolve.

Thanks, Jim. I thought I would have to go under the hood and figure out how to adjust the HTML. This is good news.

I wish I’d seen this before I’d upgraded. What a mess!

I haven’t updated any of my blogs yet because of what you wrote on your blog. This version is working fine for me, so why rock the boat. I hope you’re able to get things working properly again.

Upgrading and then downgrading didn’t help with my problems. In fact, it just made it worse. I’ve had to take drastic measures. I have upgraded to Ella 2.1 again, but the mass edit Jim spoke about wasn’t available to me and I had to reassign the links manually. Luckily, I don’t have many links. Also, I think the first upgrade is the cause of another problem I’ve experienced. I lost all my Pages. All of them! A lot of work went into them, including a mini course of 15 pages or so. I’m not happy. I figured the damage is already done, so I may as well upgrade and fix the problems the upgrade caused.
Really, I’ve upgraded, but I wouldn’t recommend it. And…I don’t see anything special “inside” Ella 2.1 (it looks and feels no different to me) to warrant it.
Stupid thing is, I never upgrade usually until all the bugs are sorted. I wish I hadn’t done it this time either.

I tried to go to your site Friday night and found nothing. I’m sorry about your pages. Man, that sucks!
