Last night I went out to dinner with a couple of friends. One is more of an acquaintance. My first thought when I saw her was that she looked good. I could tell that she felt good, too.

Towards the end of our meal, she mentioned that she had been going to Curves. My eyebrows shot up when she told me that she had lost three inches off her waist in three months. I began asking her more questions about this place.

Once I got home, I went to the Curves website and was surprised to see that they’re an international business. I read through their information and saw that they also implement a couple of diet plans.

I need to do both, although I cringe at the thought of it. Last year, when my family and I went on vacation, I thought I was going to have a heart attack when we walked up inclines. I had to stay behind in the visitor’s center at Mesa Verde because of this. Although the altitude was a factor, I knew that I was horribly out of shape and that was the real reason I was having difficulty.

Since I’ve gone back to work, I’ve put on another 10 - 15 pounds. Earlier this week, I was talking with my supervisor, who has also been putting on weight. Neither one of us want to go on a diet, because we love to eat. But I have to do something because I haven’t been feeling good for a long time.

I’ve already started cutting down on my soda intake and hope to be rid of that by this summer. I’d love to lose 3 inches off my waist and to weigh what I did when I got married. Most of all, I want to be able to walk up a hill without feeling like I’m going to drop dead. That bothers me.

When I talked to my husband about this last night, he was very supportive because he knows how out of shape I am and worries about my health. So I’m going to go check out this Curves place.
