China Honors Its Dead with a Period of Silence
China held a Period of Silence began 2:28pm yesterday (Monday for them), exactly one week after a powerful 7.9 earthquake struck the southwestern region of their country, killing some 34,000 people. 158 more people were killed by a mudslide over the past three days as they were trying to repair a damaged road. Chinese officials estimate that the death toll may climb up to 50,000 by the time all of the rubble is cleared out.
Amidst all of the chaos and tragedy, there are stories of survival.
