A Preliminary Review of the Thesis Theme for WordPress
Thesis for WordPress isn’t a theme, so much as a theme framework. Sure, you can use the stock vanilla theme that comes with the package. But most people buy Thesis with the idea of customizing it to suit their own style. That was the reason why I invested in the program.
My Experience
Installing the program wasn’t too difficult. I loved the interface, although I had to poke around a bit to memorize what functions were located where. Thesis comes with two options panels: Thesis Options and Design Options.
Thesis Options Panel

The Thesis Options Panel is where you’ll enter in your header information, meta tags, links, scripts, etc. I love the way that you can expand or collapse each category one at a time, or all at once.
Thesis Design Options Panel

This is where you customize your layout. I spent most of the first weekend playing around in this area and have to say that it’s a lot of fun. The hard part came when I tried to customize my theme beyond the basic framework. If you are considering buying Thesis for your blog or website, you should have some knowledge of CSS and HTML. That’s the only downside I’ve encountered because I have basic knowledge. The better your knowledge, the easier it will be to customize Thesis.
I found lots of tutorials in the DIYthemes commmunity, with moderators who are friendly and helpful in answering my questions. I’ve also found several sites that contain useful tutorials. The best one is 100 Resources for Thesis WordPress Theme Users, by Matt Flies.
However, this weekend, I was very tempted to wipe the Thesis program off of my server and switch to Headway because I was having a helluva time trying to get my header to span the full width of the page. All kinds of nasty things happened on Saturday, which forced me to reinstall everything and start over. I told my husband about my problem yesterday morning, and he said, “The difference between you and me is that you’ll figure it out.”
I nodded my head, went back into the house and into my office. Around 10pm last night, I finally solved the issue that was bugging me all weekend. The only thing left I have to do is change the color of the text in the footer and figure out exactly what I want to do with my sidebar. For now, I’ve decided leave it alone because it’s working.

I was facing the same headache when I started using Thesis but I guess it was all worth it.
Thesis is just awesome !

Thesis is going to force me to learn what I’ve been putting off learning for a long time. I love what people have done with their blogs/sites. Thanks for stopping by.
Thanks for explaining what Thesis is. I thought it was a theme, so I needed that explanation.
I’m watching your site with interest. I like what I see so far. I’ve always been drawn to “clean” sites and yours is looking very professional right now. Well done.
You’re welcome.
And thank you! I still have a lot of work to do, such as customizing my sidebar and updating my pages, most of which are horribly out of date.
Oh, tell me about it. My site suffers the same illness!
I looked at the stats in my CPanel this morning and found a bunch of 404 links, all of which were posts which failed to convert to the new link format I had set up after I installed an SEO plugin. Now, I have to comb through every page and update the link format so Google won’t penalize my site. A webmaster’s job is never done.
I’m still thinking to switch to Thesis
Simply because lots of bloggers told me that they gained lots of search engine visitors through using Thesis

Hi, Michael!
I compared Thesis to the premium themes sold on sites such as ThemeForest.com. What ultimately sold me on Thesis was the Thesis Gallery. The SEO features sounded great, but I wanted to be able to create both static websites and blogs. Thesis can do that.
I actually lost search engine visitors, but I blame that on my new SEO configuration, which screwed up the links from my old posts.
I have been using Thesis from 4 months and I highly recommend this theme to all.
It’s SEO and typography is amazing, more over Customization of Thesis might feel little
tricky at the beginning but once you get kick of it, you will enjoy editing and modifying this theme.
