The Paranormal Craze

While looking for something to write for Supernatural, I found the mention of another paranormal TV show called The Meant to Be’s, which sounds very similar to Michael Landon’s Highway to Heaven. I don’t know the details of when it’s supposed to premiere.

Ghosts seem to be the latest fad on television, next to reality shows. I tried watching Supernatural, but it didn’t do much for me. The Medium has become my favorite. Do any of you watch these shows? If you do, which is your favorite?

Nightmares & Dreamscapes: The Second Week

How many of you saw last night’s episodes? On the chance that you haven’t seen them yet, I won’t post any spoilers. But I will say that these episodes were a big improvement over last week’s. I have to warn you that they are depressing.

For those of you who did see them, what did you think?

Stephen King’s Nightmares & Dreamscapes

Nightmares & Dreamscapes is the second of Stephen King’s mini-series this year, due to come on in less than 5 hours (my time) tonight on TNT. This is a partial reminder to myself, since I missed Desperation, which came out around the time my husband had his accident. Most of the time, I’ve enjoyed the movie-adaptations from King’s novels.

My favorites are the classic version of The Shining and The Stand. The worst was the new version of The Shining and Maximum Overdrive.

What are your favorites and not-so-favorites?

Battlestar Galactica

How many of you watch this show? My husband and I have become loyal fans since its first episode in December ‘03. The funny thing was, we didn’t think we were going to like it. Remakes of an original show usually flop, but this one didn’t.

The past two episodes have been real humdingers. If you don’t want to know what happened last night, stop reading because I’m going to give a recap.

Ana-Lucia: Angry On & Off the Set

“Perhaps she mistook the cops for the Others?”
No, this lady needs some serious Anger Management classes, along with jailtime before she kills someone. She should also get her license revoked, since she has so little regard for others. Let her bike her way to the set.

The Amazing Race: Family Edition

When this show first aired, I wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy it as much as the others. For one thing, the producers should have used one type of family–parents with two small children or families with (or of) adult children. I felt bad for the kids who got eliminated because they they didn’t have a fair chance against the adults.

Despite this qualm, I enjoyed the show and felt very satisfied when the Lintz family won last night. I would have been just as happy if the Bransons had won. The Weaver family had an excellent chance of winning but then blew it when they reached the stadium and copped out. That was fine by me because they were rude and nasty to everyone, except Ted the Fellow Christian.

The next episode looks like it will return to its regular theme, which is too bad because I enjoyed seeing areas of my country that I’ve yet to visit. Regardless, I’ll be tuning in when it airs in February.

Lost: Last Night’s Episode

This episode was much more action-packed and than the previous episodes. I found myself feeling more compassion towards Ana-Lucia, whom I thought was nothing more than a “tough girl” stereotype in the last two episodes. They’ve had more contact with “the Others” than the first group of survivors, and managed to kill three of them.

The best scene was where Ana sits with Goodman in the countryside, passing the military knife back and forth. I watched the looks on their faces as Goodman paused with the knife in his hand. Right then, there was no doubt in my mind that she had holed up the wrong guy (who had the misfortune of getting killed by the right one). The dialogue between them was good, but left me with more questions.

Who the hell are these people, and where did they come from? There are so many storylines that were introduced, and then dropped. Will those ever get reintroduced and resolved?

My husband and I watched the previews for next week’s episode. It seems that Ana-Lucia and Sayid are going to go to war over Shannon’s death. I hope that gets resolved quickly so the two groups can combine their knowledge and work together. That would make sense. But then again, nothing about this show makes sense.

Lost - Terminably Frustrating

How many of you watch this show, and what do you think about it so far? Are you as frustrated with the flashbacks that take up the majority of the show? The first episode of this season was all about Jack and how he performed a miraculous surgery on a woman named Sarah (who turned out to be his ex-wife). The second show was all about Walt and his heartbreak of losing his son.

While all of these flashback provide rich detail about the characters and what brought them to the place where they are now, I feel that these flashbacks are causing the plot to drag. I’m getting to the point where I’m losing interest in the show.

Tonight’s episode is supposed to bring Walt and Sawyer back to the island where they are attacked by the “others.” If this episode is inundated with flashbacks again, I may stop watching it. I no longer care about where these people came from, but how they are going to survive this island.

The Amazing Race - Family Edition

I’ve been an avid watcher of The Amazing Race since the second season. When the network started advertising the Family Edition, my first reaction was negative. After seeing all the torture the adults went through (eating gross delicacies, not to mention tortuous tasks), I thought it was terrible to expect kids to have to go through the same thing.

I voiced this opinion to Cassie (the girl I trained to take my place at work) and she gave me her perspective. Although I forget most of what she said, I remember that it was the value of teamwork and going different places that will etch into the memories of these kids. She’s right, but I still had my reservations.

I wound up missing all but the last fifteen minutes of the first show. Surprisingly, most of the families have late teen or young adult children. It broke my heart to see the Black family lose because their kids are the same ages as mine. There is one other family with young kids that is still fighting. I’m rooting for them now.

Battlestar Galactica: More Questions

I was hoping that last week’s episode would answer my question about whether or not Adama really is a Cylon. Friday’s episode did, in the form of Guyas Boltar’s dreams, where Adama drowns the Cylon hybrid baby. Adama is still hanging in there after getting shot in the chest.

What really interests me about this show is the human realism. In the classic BG, Adama would have bounced back by the end of the episode. Or, at the very least, by the next one. Will the writers of this show let him survive?

I’m dying to know how Starbuck will catch up with the Galactica and if Sharon will help her do it. In the last episode, Sharon had stolen Starbuck’s spaceship.

Then I’m wondering when they’ll finally catch on to Boltar and his alliance with the Cylons. I love his character, although I’m not sure why. He’s weak and easy to manipulate by that sexy blond Cylon (Does she have a name?). I’m anxious to see when he’ll get caught and if his lover is allowed to have that baby.
