Writing Progress: Shades of Evil

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted any news about my WIP. My progress is still slugging along, but it’s still going. I’m up to Chapter 20 right now, and feel that I may have reached the halfway point. I do know that I have a lot of editing to do once I get this first draft written. I feel that I’ve taken too long to get to the meat of the novel. We’ll see if I’m right after I type the last word.

One thing I do know is that I need to flesh out the characters and maybe eliminate some of the minor ones. I made this same mistake with Prosperity, and it confused my readers. I’ll have to keep an eye on that when I go back for the first edit. In the meantime, I’m trying to navigate my characters through a plot that may be getting a bit complicated. Lots of rewrites in store for me.

  1. I’d love to hear more about your WIP. And might have to look back through your posts regarding self-publishing as I’m considering doing something similar.

The basic premise involves Amanda (MC of Prosperity) going to Palm Springs to settle her deceased father’s estate and finding out that her father literally had a double life. As the story unfolds, she must solve his murder using her clairvoyance. Ah, I managed to get the synopsis down in one paragraph! :D

Once I finish customizing this blog, I’m going to relaunch my Self-Publishing with Lulu blog, which I let expire. Would you be interested in video tutorials? That’s what I’m planning on doing, along with how-to articles.

  3. Don’t you love trying to summarize your stories? I do.

I’d be more interested in the how-to articles as I can read them at work, whereas videos would be harder to watch for me.

I’d be interested to hear how you go about editing to make sure it’s of a pretty high standard.

Okay, I’ll make sure to make a written version of my videos, too. :) I’ll also include a self-editing checklist, plus articles on the different kinds of editors.

  5. Excellent. Can’t wait to see it.

I’ve posted a bit lately on self-publishing with some thoughts and comparisons that have sparked some interesting discussion in some places.
